Volunteer at Family House
Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. They make every guest's stay at Family House a heartwarming experience. We always need and welcome volunteers. Our volunteers are often the most memorable part of our guests' visit. Without our volunteers, guests would not receive clean towels or be greeted with a smile and a "let me know if there is anything I can do to help." Without our volunteers, guests would not receive surprise birthday parties, heart-to-heart talks, or gingerbread cookies for the holidays.
Hundreds of volunteers generously give of their time, efforts, and most importantly, of themselves. Our volunteers are men, women, couples, students, and even former patients and guests! Each Family House volunteer is an inspiration.
Volunteers can offer their time in a variety of ways:
House Volunteers work in four-hour shifts at each house doing a variety of tasks from answering the phone, checking in new guests, delivering clean linens and offering a warm welcome to those travelers who arrive in a strange city with so much on their minds.
Group Volunteers can be as few as a family of three to a sorority of ten who come to the houses on an occasional basis to facilitate an activity for our families. Baking cookies, singing carols, cooking a spaghetti dinner, delivering gifts at the holidays – the possibilities are limited only by the imagination when it comes to our Group Volunteers.
Event Volunteersare those wonderful people who help with our various fundraising events throughout the year. Polo, car show gala and our spring fundraiser – regardless of the event, there are lots oaf things for volunteers to do including serving on a committee, selling tickets, tending horses, setting up and tearing down.
Special Activity Volunteers come to help with occasional activities such a decorating the houses for the holidays, raking leaves, painting the houses and extraneous clerical tasks.
Volunteer Fund Raisers are planned by individuals or groups for the purpose of collecting funds or items for Family House. Benefit bridge tournaments, collections of items for the houses/guests, and charity golf outings are just a few of the many possible fund-raising events you might consider.
