Special Activity Volunteering at Family House
“Having been a House Volunteer for about a year, Dave was approached three years ago to volunteer on Christmas Day. It was after he agreed, and only a few days before Christmas, that he realized he had agreed to heat and serve dinner to all of the house guests. Being a single guy whose idea of making dinner involves a telephone or microwave, what was he going to do? So he called me, his mother, and for the past three years we have served Christmas dinner at the McKee Family House.
We set up and serve the catered dinner to about 60 of the residents and any of their family members who joined them. The brief time we spend there, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. still allows us to spend most of the day with our family and the genuine appreciation expressed by all those we serve makes the time well spent. We have come to enjoy the time spent at McKee on Christmas Day and it certainly fills us with the Christmas spirit.”
