Group Volunteers at Family House
“I have been volunteering at Family House for “Day of Caring” every year since August 2000 and really got started by accident. Pitt needed a team leader and asked me to switch from another project. I have been coming back to Family House every year since. Why do I keep coming back? That’s an easy question…it’s FUN! From the people who work there to the patients and their families, we always have a really good time. I know that we are supposed be there to work really hard, and we do, but it just doesn’t seem like it. The staff is always warm, friendly and truly appreciative of our efforts. The families, even though some are very ill, always go out of their way to speak with us and offer their thanks as well. I always go home at the end of the day feeling like I made a difference.”-Tami Hirth, Governmental Relations Office, University of Pittsburgh
